The President of ACURIL, Adele Merritt Bernard, invites proposals for paper presentations at ACURIL XXXVIII, to be held at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club, Montego Bay, Jamaica from June 1st to June 6th, 2008. The theme of the conference is “the e-librarian: ideas, innovation and inspiration!”
The Call for Papers is open to all information specialists including librarians, archivists, record administrators, and educators in the field of information science, as well as information providers.
ACURIL 2008 seeks to explore strategies and practices that will allow us to develop and use information and communication technology to the benefit of those we serve. It is intended to be a forum for persons to share ideas, innovative developments and proactive solutions to the issues and challenges we face as librarians operating in an e-environment. Papers may be practical or theoretical.
Presenters are encouraged to relate their papers to the content area groups of ACURIL, namely Agriculture and the Environment, Health, Medicine and Natural Sciences, Knowledge Management, Organization and Retrieval of Information, and Law.
To effectively explore the theme, five broad subject areas have been chosen as sub-themes for ACURIL 2008. They are:
Paper presentations must speak to one of the themes, as stated above, for ACURIL XXXVIII.
Presentation Format:
The deadline for paper presentations proposals is February 15, 2008.
Papers can be presented in any of the three official languages of ACURIL - English, French or Spanish.
Proposals may be submitted by e-mail or hard copy. Proposals must include:

For the final work, each presenter must provide one hard copy and one electronic format document. The electronic format document must be sent as a Microsoft Word file.

- The E-Environment: exploring trends and issues in the external environment and how these affect libraries, librarians and library users;
- E-Libraries and the E-Librarian, focusing on
- e-services such as virtual reference, as well as e-tools available for e- librarians;
- the profile of the e-librarian (core competencies and skills as well as e-learning opportunities);
- E-learning, covering such topics as distance education and e-literacy;
- Ethics and the E-Environment, including e-government and copyright issues;
- Knowledge management and content generation, collaborative platforms, and web 2.0 tools in information units, such as blogs and wikis; and
- Digitization, focusin on database creation, open source programs and platforms.•
Paper presentations must speak to one of the themes, as stated above, for ACURIL XXXVIII.
Presentation Format:
- Each presenter will be given 20 minutes maximum to present his/her paper.
- It is recommended that presenters highlight key points and not read their papers.
- 10 minutes will be allowed for questions and answers.
- All presenters must prepare a full paper for inclusion in the conference proceedings.
- All papers to be included in the proceedings must be received by April 30, 2008.
